DRILLING
Wild West Drilling is the leading Drilling Contractor in the Kootenay region. With an experienced team of geotechnical drilling operators, Wild West Drilling has a reputation for fast, efficient, quiet and environmentally sensitive geo-tech drilling. We specialize in difficult ground conditions and terrain many drilling operations cannot access.
Environmental Drilling
Environmental drilling is a drilling service performed when soil or groundwater samples are required to assess an area for contamination or when groundwater monitoring wells or remediation wells are required to treat groundwater.
Environmental drilling can include several drilling and probing techniques, including water bore drilling, hollow-stem auger drilling, and direct-push or probe sampling.
Water bore drilling is a rotary drilling system used to drill overburdened sands, earth, gravels, cobbles, and rock formations to depth. These holes also allow the installation of monitoring instruments and testing equipment.
Hollow-stem auger drilling is a method that uses flight-style augers with hollow centres to drill soils to depth. Soil samples are obtained by periodically driving hollow spoons down the inside of the hollow augers ahead of the cutting bit.
Direct push, or soil probing, is a basic sampling method whereby a hollow sample tube is driven by either high-pressure pushes or a high-speed hammer.
Geotechnical Drilling
Geotechnical Drilling, also known as geotechnical boring, is a method of investigating subsurface soils to provide data for engineering design before constructing buildings, dams, roadways and other infrastructure sites. The data collected may determine how deep pilings/footings must be installed to provide stability if a slope is causing previously unnoticed movement of the subsurface and other conditions that must be considered in construction planning and execution.
